How we encrypt
Mynigma uses genuine end-to-end encryption. Messages are encrypted and decrypted on your device, never in the cloud. Only you hold the keys. Feel free to check our code, it is open source.

The manual exchange of keys is a real stumbling block for less technical users. That is why we have automated the distribution of public keys to make it happen whenever - and as early as - possible. All you need to do is exchange an open message first. Of course you can still verify keys via an independent medium, if you need to.

Algorithms
We employ RSA with 4096 bit keys and OAEP padding, AES with 128 bit keys and SHA-512 for hashing. Unlike PGP and S/MIME we do not use broken or outdated algorithms like SHA-1. We also encrypt subject lines, as well as attachments.

Key management
One of the aims of Mynigma is to encrypt as much as possible. To protect against passive data collection, we have introduced a default 'trust on first use' mechanism for automatic key exchange in message headers. We will also make it as easy to compare fingerprints via an independent medium, if you suspect an active MITM attack.

Securely transferring private keys between devices is a hassle for experts, and an impossible task for luddites. With Mynigma, you can easily synchronise devices through special messages placed in your own account. A sophisticated hash commit protocol ensures that only devices you authorise (after comparing a short digest) can access this data.
